Foundation Pygmalion
The Pygmalion Foundation was established to support literature, the arts and the media in Bulgaria. The most important initiatives of the Foundation so far are:
- International Conference on "The Policies of Bulgaria in the Euro-Atlantic Reality" - May 2019;
- The Foundation earned the support of the America for Bulgaria Foundation for the publication of DEBATI.BG - 2018.
- Was awarded the America for Bulgaria Foundation Award for charitable donation for the restoration of the Grand Basilica in Plovdiv
- Established a prize for Pro-Bulgarian policy. The first ever prize winner was Professor Michael Bar-Zohar for his book "Salvation" - June 2018. ;
- Launch of the new internet media DEBATI.BG - June 2017;
- Participated in the "Europeana" project and established 10 scholarships for students from the University of Plovdiv with the goal of digitalization of the cultural and historical heritage of Plovdiv - 2010-2012;
- Established the annual scholarship for literature for a student at the Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv;
- Established an annual award for contribution in the field of philology for a professor at the Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv - 2004-2010;
- Participated in the European project Halma - 2006-2008;
- Participated in the literary project of the Edenkoben House of the Arts in the Rhineland-Pfalz province, Germany - 1995-2006.
OUR FOUNDER
Emil Stoyanov
The Pygmalion Foundation was founded by Emil Stoyanov in 2005. Emil Stoyanov was born in 1959 in the town of Plovdiv.
He graduated from the German Language School and then in literature at the Universities of Plovdiv and Leipzig.
He is the author of several books and over one hundred articles and translations from German.
In 1990, Emil Stoyanov founded the University Publishing House in Plovdiv and in 1992 the publishing house Pygmalion, specializing in publishing German fiction literature.
In 1998 he was Deputy Director General of the Bulgarian National Television.
In 2000 he founded the first news television station in Bulgaria – TV Europe, which in its most successful years reached one million viewers a day.
In 2002 Emil Stoyanov was honoured by the President of the Republic of Austria with the Austrian Decoration for Science and Art for his exceptional merits for promoting Austrian literature in Bulgaria.
In 2005 Emil Stoyanov was awarded the Order of Merit for Service to German Culture for his continuous efforts to promote it in Bulgaria.
In 2009 he was elected Member of the European Parliament from the civil quota of PP GERB. Emil Stoyanov was the first Bulgarian permanent member of the Committee on Culture, Education and Media in the European Parliament.
In 2016, after 15 years of successful management of Europe Television, Emil Stoyanov sold his shares in the broadcaster and left the management.
In 2017 Emil Stoyanov and the Pygmalion Foundation founded the new online media DEBATI.BG which combines elements of newspaper and television media.
In 2018 The Pygmalion Foundation established the Prize for Pro-Bulgarian Policy, whose first winner was the Israeli Professor Michael Bar-Zohar for his book Salvation.
In 2019 The Pygmalion Foundation and DEBATI.BG organised an international conference on "The Policies of Bulgaria in the Euro-Atlantic
Reality", with the participation of former Prime Minister of Belgium and former EU President Herman Van Rompuy, US Ambassador to Sofia H.E. Eric Rubin, President of Bulgaria (2012-2017) Rosen Plevneliev, Prime Minister of Bulgaria (1991-1992) and current Constitutional Judge Philip Dimitrov and the economist Krassen Stanchev.
